*Seth Meyers (“Saturday Night Live”) is a comedian. And so apparently is Barak Obama. We’re tempted to call him a silver tongued devil. In fact if he wasn’t busy running the country he could easily have a successful career as a stand up.

If you saw him Saturday night at the 2011 White House Correspondents Association annual dinner, you know what we mean. If you haven’t seen his performance, er, speech, scroll down and get ready to laugh.

We suppose you could say that the president, with the help of Meyers,  got some get-back after weeks of attacks from his probable 2012 Republican challenger Donald Trump, who was in attendance. He cracked that the billionaire businessman could bring change to the White House, transforming it from a stately mansion into a tacky casino with a whirlpool in the garden.

Oh yeah, he went there. The Prez used the annual dinner to mock the reality TV star’s presidential ambitions. He said Trump has shown the acumen of a future president, from firing Gary Busey on a recent episode of “Celebrity Apprentice” to focusing so much time on conspiracy theories about his birthplace.

After a week when Mr. Obama released his long-form Hawaii birth certificate, he said Trump could now focus on the serious issues, from whether the moon landing actually happened to “where are Biggie and Tupac?”

Two snaps up!

“No one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than ‘the Donald,’” Obama said, referring to Trump’s claims the same day that he was responsible for solving the issue.

For Trump’s decision to fire actor Busey instead of rock singer Meat Loaf from his TV show earlier this month, President Obama snapped:

“These are the types of decisions that would keep me up at night. Well handled, sir.”

Zing!

Trump managed what we think was a smile or two at some of the earlier jokes, but was clearly not amused when Saturday Night Live comedian/actor Seth Meyers picked up where the president left off.

“Donald Trump often talks about running as a Republican, which is surprising,” said the Saturday Night Live actor, entrusted with providing some of the comedy for the evening. “I just assumed he was running as a joke.”

Ouch! That one had to hurt. (Scroll down to see it.)

And judging by some of the reaction from the public on messageboards around the Internet, it appears that Mr. Obama and Seth Meyers scored a 1,2 combination knockout punch against Trump:

“Wooooooo! Donald Trump learned tonight that you can’t get away with bullying President Obama, because President Obama uses his bully pulpit very effectively to take some well-aimed pokes right back.”

“I was laughing myself silly as the President roughed up Trump, who clearly was steaming rather than taking it in good humor. And I just gasped as the President pointedly described the level of decision making that Trump does on his fake reality show.”

“Three cheers for President Obama, for delivering an elegantly hilarious Presidential takedown.”

Finally, even though it was a night of hilarity, President Obama put a serious edge on the evening when he thanked the troops for their service overseas and noted that the people of the South, especially Alabama, have suffered losses.

“The devastation is unbelievable and it is heartbreaking,” he reminded. He encouraged the journalists in the room to help tell the stories of those who have been hurt by the storms and saluted those who lost their lives while covering the news.

*Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA is moving on with his career in Hollywood and has taken on a recurring role on Showtime’s “Californication” which stars David Duchovny.

He’ll play the role of a character named Apocalypse. (Nice name.) On the show, his character who is a dangerous Hip Hop mogul who Hank (Duchovny) contemplates writing a movie for. Hank is a struggling writer and has a rocky family background.

Acting is not a new adventure for the rapper. Since the inception of the Clan, he’s appeared on some big screen productions like “Due Date” and “American Gangster.”

RZA is also focusing his talent and time to directing his first movie, “The Man with the Iron Fist,” produced by Eli Roth and Quentin Taratino. It’s expected to hit theaters in December.

*Just when we thought LeBron James was going to get a break from the harsh criticism and his questionable loyalty, his family goes and puts him on blast.

In an upcoming book, “Kin to the King: A LeBron James Family History,” the family really gets to the heart of some issues and puts the NBA player under a microscope in a way no fan had ever known.

Although the book is supposed to be about the background of his family, uncle so-and-so and cousin “Pookie” and nem have some things to say about their relative.

There are even allegations that the star won’t even sign birthday cards because he believes his signature is too valuable.

Sounds like there are some trust issues that need to be worked out there.

THMS HOTMAIL: “SHOP UNTIL YOU DROP”
May 2011 02

Hey y’all,

My friend is a shop a holic. It would be OK if she had the money but home gurl has a problem. She only works 30 hours week and makes $9 per hour.

Her children walk around looking raggedy. I think it is unfair for her to always put herself first. Her kids deserve better even thou she is comfortable living on section 8.

I know she has personal issues that she covers up by buying materialistic things. She wont admit what the true issue is in her life.

Do I let my friend deal her own shopping addiction or should I get her some professional help?

EURWeb – Conservative Columnist Blasts Obama’s Handling of Bin Laden

Brett M. Decker

*You knew this was coming.

DC’s conservative newspaper The Washington Times is running a column on its website today that accuses President Obama of inappropriately “taking credit” for Osama bin Laden’s death, and suggests the entire victory should go to President George W. Bush.

In his first column, On Deck with Decker, editorial page editor Brett M. Decker says Obama speech Sunday night proves that he thinks “everything is about him” and that the personality flaw makes him “weak” and a “lackluster leader.”

Below, an excerpt from the column:

President Obama took to the airwaves shortly before midnight to confirm the good news and take credit for it. The wording of his short statement made it clear that the campaign season for his 2012 reelection bid is fully underway. He used the words “I,” “me” and “my” so many times it was hard to count for such a quick message. Not only is this consistent with his view that everything is about him, it also reflected the reality that this president is weak and perceived by the world to be a lackluster leader who has undermined American power. He needs to grab any opportunity he can to make himself believable as a commander in chief. Crowds flocked to White House gates to celebrate bin Laden’s demise, giving this unpopular president a rare glimpse of public support that won’t last long.

Mr. Obama called his predecessor, former President George W. Bush, to tell him the news. This was only fitting as it was Mr. Bush’s policies that took the fight to the enemy and didn’t back down despite opposition from timid politicians such as then-Sen. Barack Obama. Bin Laden’s death is more Mr. Bush’s victory than Mr. Obama’s because American forces wouldn’t even be fighting in South Asia had Democratic doves had their way. Mr. Obama may indeed have instructed CIA Director Leon Panetta to make the capture of bin Laden a top priority, as he boasted Sunday night, but he was reiterating a mandate already established as national policy. It was Mr. Bush who first identified bin Laden as “an evil man,” designated his “dead or alive” capture as a top U.S. priority and relentlessly pursued it throughout his presidency. We would not have seen this day without the groundwork he laid, from the use of military force to the building of coalition support with other nations, including Pakistan.

Interestingly enough, this column’s comment section at the website is full of folks who label themselves Republican or conservative and believe this columnist is way off base.
